IRP TAGS

"IRP" Stands for International Registration Plan.
The IRP is a special plan for registering vehicles that must travel in two or more jurisdictions.

All states have agreed to allow one juristiction (your base state) to collect the registration fees (apportioned fees) for each jurisdiction at one time. These fees are then devided among the other juridictions according to:

  • Percentage of mileage traveled in each juridiction

  • Vehicle Identification information

  • Maximum weight

The advantage to the carrier is that you only have one tag instead of 48....imagine that !! (more below)

The base juridiction, in turn, issues one registration cab card, and one tag for the vehicle.
The cab card lists the weights for each juridiction to which the carrier's
registration fees have been apportioned.
