AUTHORITY AND DOT

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires all "Interstate" Motor Carriers to secure a DOT number and an MC number.

The DOT number is the number issued by the Department of Transportation to Carriers subject to FMCSA Regulations.

The MC number is a number issued by "Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration" (formerly known as ICC or FHWA) when Operating Authority is granted.

Interstate Operating Authority is permission granted by the Federal Government to transport regulated freight across state lines.

These Federal Agencies track your company's safety compliance; they monitor your insurance compliance, and in general make your life difficult....oops.......I mean.....they try to keep our highways safer.
